Stop & Shop "Food for Friends" - 2012
The Super Stop & Shop store on Newtown Road, Danbury, CT conducted their 22nd Annual Food for Friends
Program to raise money for Northeast Food Banks from October 28th to December 8th 2011. Customers donate $1, $3 or $5 to
support hunger relief organizations within their local communities.
Based on the U.S. Census Bureau 2010 poverty report, last year,
17.2 million households were food insecure, the highest number ever recorded in the U.S. As economic times remain tough for many
families, regional food banks and pantries are depending more on donations from company initiatives such as Stop & Shop's Food for
Friends program.
Each year Stop & Shop stores select a local organization to receive the donated gifts. Last year the Association of Religious Communities
(ARC) was selected for the honor. The amount received from the Food for Friends Program was
$3,379.20.
These funds will be used to supplement the food ARC distributes via its Comida Program. The pictures below were taken at the Stop &
