The Association of Religious Communities (ARC) welcomes children to learn more about our organization and, where appropriate, participate in polls and surveys, as well as submit project reports, artwork, writings, and other submissions for posting on our Site. However, we encourage this be done only with their parent's knowledge, supervision, and consent.

Collection, Use, and Disclosure Of Personal Information From Children Under 13

When a visitor to our Site is under the age of 13, Roots & Shoots does not require the disclosure of more Personal Information than is reasonably necessary for him or her to participate in an activity as a condition of such participation.

The Association of Religious Communities (ARC) uses Personal Information submitted to this Site by children under 13 in compliance with the parental consent requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act ("COPPA").

Collection and Use of a Child's Information by The Association of Religious Communities

When a child under 13 years of age provides The Association of Religious Communities (ARC) Personal Information online including his/her age, for example to participate in a contest or to ask a question, we will collect that child's email address and the e-mail address of the child's parent or guardian. We may collect a child's email address in connection with a contest or game or to respond to a child's specific request for the sole purpose of communicating with the child on a one-time-only basis. This information will not be used to re-contact the child, and will be deleted from our records when the contest or game is over. If a child wins a game or contest, notification will be sent to the parent or guardian's e-mail address (provided by the child when he/she enters the contest). We will not ask the child for any Personal Information beyond e-mail addresses without obtaining prior parental consent.

In some instances we may collect a child's email address in order to respond more than once to a child's specific request. For example, a child may want to subscribe to our online newsletter or receive other online communications from The Association of Religious Communities (ARC). In these instances The Association of Religious Communities (ARC) will also obtain a parent's email address along with the child's. Before any further contact with the child, The Association of Religious Communities (ARC)will send an email to the parent (1) notifying him or her that we have collected the child's email address in order to respond more than once to the child's request for a subscription, information, etc.; (2) informing the parent that he or she can refuse us permission to contact the child, and how to do so; and (3) informing the parent that if he or she does not respond to the email within one week, The Association of Religious Communities (ARC) may use the child's information for the purpose for which it was submitted. Under no circumstances will the child be allowed to participate without providing a parent's email address.

If The Association of Religious Communities (ARC)collects additional Personal Information from children, such as full name, phone number, or email address in combination with a screen name or if any activity featured on arcforpeace.org will allow children under the age of 13 to reveal Personal Information publicly (for example, via un-moderated chat rooms or discussion boards), we will obtain verifiable parental consent through the methods required by COPPA before allowing the child to participate.

We may collect a child's name and email address to the extent reasonably necessary to protect the security of this Site, to protect against liability, or as required or permitted by law. Information collected for these reasons will not be used for any other purpose.

Sharing Children's Personal Information with Third Parties

No Personal Information collected from children under 13 will be sold, rented, or otherwise disclosed to any organization outside The Association of Religious Communities (ARC), except for disclosure to companies we have contracted with to help us provide services requested by the child, or pursuant to court order, subpoena, or a specific request from a law enforcement agency.

Linked Sites

This Site may link directly to sites operated by third parties which are not controlled by The Association of Religious Communities (ARC), and which may collect Personal Information from your child. Parents should therefore check the relevant site's privacy policy to understand how it collects and uses children's Personal Information. The Association of Religious Communities (ARC) will not receive any Personal Information obtained by another site from a child under the age of 13 unless that site follows the requirements of COPPA.
